BORIS ACHOUR / 2003 - 2004

Artist, born in 1966 in Marseille, lives and works in Paris.
Boris Achour was invited for a research project and to be assisted throughout several productions, including the editing and postproduction of a film, Brume, shot in Japan during the spring of 2003 and co-produced with the Contemporary Art Centre of Osaka. The Laboratoires also produced one of the artist’s most important pieces to this day, Jouer avec des choses mortes, an installation composed of ten sculptures and a film (shot at the Laboratoires with the artists and dancers he met there) in which five people handle the sculptures, until they destroy them. This piece deals with modifying perception and changing scales, and oddly associates everyday objects made spectacular, produced in very different quality levels, with the aesthetics of television games, fun fairs and minimal sculpture. This piece was presented at the Laboratoires from December 20, 2003 till January 31, 2004.In 2005, the Laboratoires will publish a monograph on the work of this artist.
