YVES-NOËL GENOD / 2004

YVES-NOÊL GENOT, Le groupe Saint-Agustin on ice, 2004
Actor, dancer and performer, born in 1962, lives in Paris.
As a dance and theater performer, Yves-Noël Genod created his first solo play in 2003, En attendant Genod, at the Lieu Unique in Nantes. The Laboratoires have supported this artist for the production of a second chapter developing this epic inspired by the British stand-up comedies. Yves-Noël Genod’s inexhaustible verbosity, based on direct public address, mixing intimate autobiography and semi-mundane gossip, tacks about between confession, irony and invective. In the field of dance and contemporary theater, this work appears as an anachronistic form, exploiting complicity with the public, voluntarily keeping them in suspense, from revelation to revelation, pulling all the emotional strings possible, ranging from empathy to embarrassment. Moreover, this performance is propped with appearances of improbable talking, singing, dancing or wandering guests (including an ersatz pop boys band, a local rock star, and even characters of the story) without any direct connection to the spoken text, and without it being possible to decipher what is written from what is mere improvisation. A new adaptation of this show is scheduled in the festival «100 dessus dessous 2005» at the Parc de la Villette (Paris).
